Open Access Databases
Noethia — a beta search engine that can search the Arxiv (open-source physics, astronomy, and mathematics) database by mathematical equations which are usually shown with Latex fonts. Returns journal articles in which that formula appears.
The Digital Miscellanies Index -— Miscellanies—popular printed collections of poetry and songs—reflect fashions, popular taste and the literary market, rather than the state of high literature. They were the form in which many ordinary people would have read poetry in the Eighteenth Century. The Index offers. insights into readers and consumers of the past.
ERIHPLUS —ERIHPLUS is a key journal index within the Humanities and Social Sciences fields, widely used by the European academic community. This could be described as the European version of the MLA Directory of Periodicals.
CIA FOIA Electronic Reading Room — provides indexes to and full text (frequently redacted) of FOIA requests; also provides access to files released as part of the CREST system. Interesting reading – conspiracies, UFO’s, etc.
Monastic Matrix — The aim of the Matrix is to collect and make available all existing data about Christian religious women in Europe between 400 and 1600 C.E. (See related content at Acta Sanctorum, below.)
The Sanskrit Library —The Sanskrit Library provides access to digitized primary texts, manuscript images, lexical resources, linguistics software, computerized research, and study tools.
Online Etymology Dictionary — This site is endlessly fascinating; one could get lost for hours here. The site is sophisticated too, in terms of its forum and apps available for satisfying your word origin needs anytime!
Abortion Onscreen Database -- This research program aims to investigate abortion as represented in film and television, analyzing the narratives and the impact on broader social and cultural understandings.
Dictionary of Canadian Biography — the home of more than 9,000 biographies from all walks of life and all parts of the country. The Canadian equivalent to the American National Biography Online (US) and the Dictionary of National Biography (UK)
English Translations of Korean Literature — This database is designed to provide comprehensive information on translated Korean literature, including books, short stories, and journal publications.
Fee-Based Databases
London Life, 1965-1966 — Covers a wide range of topics, from music and film to sexuality and the thriving nightlife of London’s West End. At the same time, it captures the increasingly cosmopolitan nature of British society, documenting the emergence of a more diverse media landscape and audience. searchers and students of cultural history and, specifically, of Britain’s cultural revolution.

Bexar Archives: Colonial Archives of Texas, 1717-1836 -- During this period, the governments of Spain and Mexico collected in San Antonio de Bexar (when that city was the capital of Texas. )This archives presents a series of official documents detailing the military, civilian, and political life of the Spanish province of Texas and the Mexican state of Coahuila y Texas.
Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) — This resource began in the early 2000s, and now contains over 1 M title profiles. It provides diverse, unbiased reviews to Pre-K to 12 media of all types.
Pro Sound Effects — The world’s largest library of professionally recorded sound used by sound designers.
Art Theorists of the Italian Renaissance (hybrid) — This is a collection of treatises on art and architecture printed and published between 1470 to 1775. It is structured around the two Italian editions of Giorgio Vasari's Lives of the Artists. An editorial advisory board selected the authors for inclusion in Art Theorists of the Italian Renaissance. First or early editions have been preferred, and translations are from the publication period. There are two exceptions to this policy for English translations.

The Footwear News Archive -- provides exclusive access to one of the longest-running still-published fashion trade titles. This archive includes breaking fashion news, expert analysis, and imagery chronicling market dynamics, design and business strategies.
Acta Sanctorum — the Acts of the Saints. This monumental compilation of hagiographies was begun in the mid-17th century by a Flemish Jesuit scholar and hagiographer. His followers, known as the Bollandists, continued the work. Beyond the obvious value to religious and cultural studies, the Acta contain rare and otherwise unknown accounts of the daily lives of women from the late ancient through the early modern world.
